About Jhunjhunu District (Rajasthan)
The district of Jhunjhunu is a part of Shekhawati region. Jhunjhunu was founded and also controlled by the Kaimkhani Nawabs till 1730. The last Nawab of this place was Nawab Rooh Ullah Khan. The Nawabs ruled over the place of Jhunjhunu for around 280 years. Rooh Ullah Khan had a great faith in his Diwan named, Shardul Singh. The bold Shardul Singh occupied Jhunjhunu after the demise of Rohilla Khan in 1730 A.D. It was by dint of his subtle political reason that Maharao Shardul Singh controlled Jhunjhunu and ruled this place for almost 12 years. But after his decease the entire estate was equally divided among his five sons. Then their descendants continuously ruled this place until India got its Independence in the year 1947. During the rule of Shardul Singh, he constructed mainly two marvellous temples in the region such as Kalyan Ji Mandir and Gopinath Ji Ka mandir.
The region has famous personalities from various fields such as Mehandi Hasan (Singer), Ghanshyam Das Birla (Industrialist) and Kiran Shekhawat (Pilot).
The district extends to a geographical area of 5,928 sq km. and on basis of the territorial size ranks 21st in the state and 179th in India. As per data recorded in the year 2021, there was a total 3.39% of the total geographical area of the district. Its large area, 675.54 sq km is demarcated as a waste land, which cannot be used for any kind of agricultural or industrial activity. It lies at 28°13'N latitude, 75°40'E longitude and 323 m altitude. It is bounded by Haryana on Northeast and East, by Sikar district on Southeast, South and Southwest and by Churu district on Northeast and North. The climate of the district is extremely hot in the summers and fairly cold in the winters. The actual rainfall in the district was 580.3 mm in the year of 2021-22.
In the state of Rajasthan with an allotted district code of 103 the district of Jhunjhunu came into existence. Its district Headquarters is at Jhunjhunu which is located at a distance of 176 km. from the State Capital. The district has 6 sub-districts, 18 towns and 927 villages. The administrative language in the district is Hindi.
According to the 2011 census, the district is home to a total number of 3,83,664 households with a total of 21,37,045 out of which 10,95,896 are males and 10,41,149 are females, causing it to rank 12th in the State and 214 in India. The population growth rate during the period 2001 to 2011 was 11.67% including 11.43% were males and 11.93% were females. The density of population of the district is 361 persons per sq km. According to 2011 census, the percentage of major religions practiced by the people of this region are Hindu and Muslim with 89.17%, and 10.68% of the total population. As per 2011 census the principal language in the district is Hindi with 98.09%. In the year 2020 the number of live births in the district was 44,199 out of which 23,320 were males and 20,879 were females. In the same year the number of deaths in the district was 15,263 out of which 9,060 were males and 6,201 were females.
Economic wise, Agriculture is the main source of income of the people. The district has famous copper mines in Khatri tehsil. The Khatri copper complex of Hindustan Copper Limited is situated at distance of 10 km from the Khetri town. It also has by products for instance sulpheric, Acid and Fertilizers etc. In the year 2020-21 the gross domestic product in the district was Rs. 23,76,452 lakhs at current price and Rs. 15,20,275 lakhs at constant prices in the year 2011-2012. The net domestic product in the district during the period 2020-21 was Rs. 21,52,746 lakh at current price and Rs. 13,52,041 lakh at constant prices in the year 2011-2012. The Per Capita Income or NDDP, At Factor Cost during the period 2020-21 was Rs. 87,562 at current price and Rs. 54,994 at constant prices in the year 2011-2012.
Santosh Ahlawat is a famous politician from there. He is also the current member of Lok Sabha. He belongs to Bharitiya Janta Party (BJP). Another famous political leader is Kamla Beniwal from Congress.
According to 2011 census, the percentage of literate persons is 74.13 out of which 86.9 are males and 60.95 are females. The total literate population of the district is 13,70,360 out of which 8,15,834 are males and 5,54,526 are females. The total number of illiterate persons is pegged at 7,66,685 out of which 2,80,062 are males and 4,86,623 are females. The district has a numbers of educational institutes including Shri Jagdish Jhabarmal Tiberwala University, Shridhar University, Jhunjhunu Academy School and Keystone Group of Institutions.
Some of the important tourist places of the district are Rani Sati Temple, Kamruddin Shah's Dargah, SoneChandiki Haveli, Kanoria Haveli, Ganeriwal Haveli, Aath Havelis, Ajit Sagar, Birdi Chand Well, Mukundgarh Fort, Forsterganj-A British Establishment, Badalgarh Fort, MertanijikiBaori, KhetriMahal, Zorawargarh, Shekhawat Rajput's Chhatris, The Modi and Tiberwala Haveli. In the year of 2021, 107 foreign tourists and 1,17,392 domestic tourists visited these places.
